Exercise selection
Choosing exercises for a bodyweight challenge
Choose bodyweight challenge exercises with practical progressions, scaled targets and recovery considerations for mixed-experience groups.
The best exercise list is not the longest one. Choose a small set of movements participants can learn, scale and repeat without equipment.
Start with movement categories
- Squat pattern: chair squat, bodyweight squat or a comfortable partial range.
- Push pattern: wall, incline, knee or standard push-up.
- Single-leg pattern: supported split squat or lunge where appropriate.
- Conditioning: marching, high knees or jumping jacks with a lower-impact option.
- Trunk endurance: short plank intervals with an elevated alternative.
Set targets people can scale
Use ranges or timed sets instead of one mandatory rep number. A beginner might complete fewer controlled reps while an experienced participant uses a harder variation. Both can count as completing the same session.
Plan recovery
Avoid repeating high-volume work for the same area on consecutive days. Include rest and lower-intensity options. Exercise information here is general and does not replace individual medical or coaching advice.
